Early Literacy Interventionist (North London)

38% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard. Chapter One is a fast-growing charity, with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills they need to thrive. We work to ensure that all children have 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.
Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme (based on a model that serves 20,000 children successfully in the USA) provides daily, 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually with target children.
This ELI role, reporting to the Schools Development Manager, is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and grow their knowledge of phonics and/or their teaching skill set. It is ideal for someone with previous school experience who is looking for a new and exciting challenge.
You will conduct initial baseline assessments and then deliver differentiated, 1:1, targeted, 7 minute phonics sessions to pupils using a systematic, synthetic approach. Although you are employed by Chapter One, you will work closely with the school team to understand the progression of the school’s phonics teaching; establish tailored plans for each child and feedback on pupil progress. Using your knowledge and insight, you will also collaborate with colleagues at Chapter One to further improve the ELI model, the online tool and programme delivery.

The Programme Manager role
Due to the continued expansion and sustainability of our programmes, we are seeking a new team member to support our next period of growth into the 2025-2026 academic year.
You will be a consumate account manager to support our skills and employability programmes designed in partnership with industry. You will work collaboratively with our corporate and industry partners to support teachers and students in schools and further education institutions access a range of TTF educational programmes.

*Hybrid working

Role Description
The Programmes Executive plays a key role supporting our community of schools during their time on the programme across the school year. They will support the design and delivery of Bite Back in Schools to ensure the best possible user experience for young people, their teachers and their schools, and to ensure the programme makes the greatest possible impact within the project timeline.
The Programmes Executive will report to the Programmes Manager, and will work closely with colleagues across Bite Back, in particular with our comms, digital, youth and policy teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Relationship management

Provide ongoing support to schools throughout their time on the programme, building strong working relationships with participating schools.

Support communication with all schools, providing a point of contact for the coordinator and lead teacher in each school.

Support monitoring and evaluation through creation of surveys, ensuring completion of baseline and end of year surveys, and analysis of data submitted (working with our Evaluation Manager).

Lead the planning, creation, and distribution of our termly newsletter, highlighting school achievements, amplifying youth voices, and inspiring action across our network.

Provide timely responses to school queries, manage a shared inbox and alert the Programmes Manager of any potential risks.

Proactively seek feedback from teachers and young people on our programmes

Ensure opportunities for schools to engage in at least two one-on-one meetings with our team during the school year.
Community management

Celebrate and share examples of best practice and impactful social action projects amongst our community of schools.

Deliver training and webinars for schools.

Manage and grow engagement with school groups through our social media platforms, fostering a sense of community and promoting active participation.

Grow our movement - supporting the recruitment of future cohorts by promoting the Bite Back in Schools programme, distributing recruitment comms, holding set up calls with interested schools, and guiding schools through the application and enrolment process, working closely with the Programmes Manager on the design of these processes.
Programme delivery

Schedule and organise visits to schools, agreeing agendas with the schools in advance to include elements including meeting pupils and teachers, leading feedback sessions and focus groups and supporting the development of their social action campaigns.

Schedule and deliver assemblies with schools partaking in the programme.
-
Ensure schools submit invoices on time as part of their grant funding, providing support where needed and coordinating with the finance team to ensure prompt processing.

Book and arrange assemblies, coordinating between schools and our Bite Back Ambassadors.
-
Support the School Ambassadors with travel logistics as they deliver assemblies in schools across England and Scotland.
-
Maintain and regularly update programme management software and associated data to ensure accurate and up to date information for all participating schools.
-
Ensure successful end-to-end support for the 100+ schools participating in the programme throughout the next school year.
Project support
-
Provide support to Programme Manager in the delivery of projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and scope.
-
Assist in the delivery of the Local Authority programme, including traveling as needed to facilitate workshops and provide support to the team’s operational requirements.

Provide support for the primary school pilot programme and contribute to the creation and development of engaging resources tailored for primary school use.

Provide ad hoc input to evolving organisational requirements as directed by senior team members.

Main responsibilities:
- To support delivery of The FA Schools’ Football Strategy and the English Schools’ FA’s Business Plan
- To manage the ESFA’s safeguarding work, in line with legislation, FA safeguarding policy, procedures, regulations, standards and guidance.
- To manage safeguarding and child and adults at risk protection concerns in a timely manner and in line with FA requirements and guidance.
- To take operational responsibility for the implementation of The FA’s Safeguarding 365 Standard for County FAs and driving safer practice and culture in schools’ football.
Job role
- To oversee, track and ensuring ongoing compliance with all areas of The FA’s Safeguarding 365 Standard for County FAs measures, policies and procedures and collate and submit all evidence for assessment.
- To operationally lead the implementation and delivery of safeguarding within the ESFA, being accountable for relevant areas of The FA’s Safeguarding 365 Standard.
- To support the Senior Leadership Team and take a dynamic and strategic approach to safeguarding delivery within the ESFA, raising awareness and providing organisational support and direction to colleagues and Members
- To work with the Chief Executive Officer to provide the Board with regular reports on safeguarding activity within the ESFA.
- To work with The FA Safeguarding Case Management Team (FA SCMT) to refer child abuse and adults at risk concerns to The FA, acting in line with the relevant FA safeguarding policy, regulations and guidance.
- To record all safeguarding concerns on the prevailing FA safeguarding system and ensure all data is securely retained in accordance with FA regulations, policies and data protection legislation.
- To manage all safeguarding poor practice concerns and complaints referred to the ESFA, with a focus on timeliness and outcomes and line with FA policy, regulations and guidance.
- To provide training, support and guidance to the ESFA and its Members on how to manage safeguarding complaints and concerns effectively, with a focus on timeliness and outcomes and in line with FA policy, regulations and guidance.
- To use IT systems to monitor safeguarding compliance across the schools’ football volunteer network to manage risk and assist in strategic planning.
- To utilise insight and data to inform all compliance activity and take appropriate activity to address non-compliance.
- To ensure the ESFA is compliant with safeguarding legislation e.g. Data Protection/GDPR 2018, Children’s Act, Protection of Freedoms Act (Criminal Record Checks), the Government’s prevailing ‘Working Together’ guidance. Prevailing ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance and any other legislation or statutory guidance that may be introduced.
- To identify, develop and maintain strong relationships with key safeguarding stakeholders.
- To strategically manage effective Association Safeguarding Officer networks; liaising with the Local Authority Designated Officers, Local Safeguarding Partnerships, Local Safeguarding Adult Boards, Children’s and Adults’ Social Care Services, Police Child Protection Teams and support Association Welfare Officers to be compliant with safeguarding legislation, FA safeguarding policy, best-practice guidance and education programmes.
- To manage a diverse workload being able to prioritise work according to risk and timeframes, providing regular updates to the line manager on progress against the work programme, targets and business plan priorities.
- To maintain strong links with key FA staff and attend national FA safeguarding events and CPD courses to ensure knowledge and skills are maintained and updated.
- To work with colleagues to address poor behaviour and raise standards in schools’ football, promoting fun and safe football environments and creating a culture that lives and celebrates safer working practice across the ESFA’s activity and schools’ football.
- To co-ordinate safeguarding support visits, parental engagements and Association health checks with Members to ensure they are compliant with the records they have submitted to the ESFA and to check on the culture and safeguarding practice.
- To co-ordinate and deliver or source CPD events for Association Safeguarding Officers.
- To ensure that any individual helping with any ESFA or ESFA Member event involving children is suitably DBS-checked, trained and understand their responsibilities at the event.
- To work with colleagues to embed safeguarding and equality throughout the ESFA and the schools’ football network.
- To provide the highest level of customer excellence to support volunteers across all FA Technology systems.

Schools Coordinator
We are now recruiting two full-time positions for a Schools Coordinator (Impact Officer) to work as the primary link between partner schools and the CYUK programme.
This youth and education charity empowers diverse 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time volunteering in schools. As mentors, tutors and role models in schools, the charities volunteers support children who are furthest away from opportunity in the UK.
Position: Schools Coordinator (internal title School Impact Officer)
School locations: B29 4HE and B42 2PY - 4 days school based
Training location: B15 2HU - 1 day per week (with some working from home)
Working schedule: Term-time working (except for the second half of August)
Hours: Working hours are 8:00-4:30, Monday to Friday.
Salary: £25,432 per annum
Duration: Permanent

The Role
We have a rewarding opportunity for a School Impact Officer to train, support and develop volunteers and monitor the programme through effective administration, data management and to build a deep partnership between the school and the charity.
The Impact Officer is based predominantly in a school and is the primary link between the partner schools and the programme and is the enabler of the programme delivery. You will support a team of volunteer mentors, who support school activities by coordinating, managing and evaluating the programme.
The Volunteer Mentors also complete a Leadership and Development programme and you will work with them on a professional development plan to chart their continuous professional development and ready them for employment.
The role is primarily a school-based post from Monday to Thursday and is based in a regional venue on most Fridays. See locations above.
About You

The Role
We have a rewarding opportunity for a School Impact Officer to train, support and develop volunteers and monitor the programme through effective administration, data management and to build a deep partnership between the school and the charity.
The Impact Officer is based predominantly in a school and is the primary link between the partner schools and the programme and is the enabler of the programme delivery. You will support a team of volunteer mentors, who support school activities by coordinating, managing and evaluating the programme.
The Volunteer Mentors also complete a Leadership and Development programme and you will work with them on a professional development plan to chart their continuous professional development and ready them for employment.
